Course Description:
In English II, we as a class will focus on the exploration of the movements and highlights of world literature. We
will also prepare for the North Carolina 10th Grade EOC. The course will be divided into several thematic units
as students analyze the social perspective and historical significance of individual literary movements, styles of
writings, and highlights of world literature as we reevaluate their notions of the world at large (beyond the
comfortable confines of the United States). Our studies will extend beyond the written word as we periodically
take a look at other mediums of expression, including (but not limited to) film, music, and art. Students will
complete a number of tasks that will require them to use and develop their reading, writing, speaking, listening
skills, and critical thinking skills. English II students are required to take the North Carolina 10th Grade EOC
test at the end of the year. In preparation, our class will take an in-depth look at the writing process and strive
to evolve as individual writers and thinkers.
